Why Your Accountant Hates You

Unless prompted, few business owners willingly gush about their accountants. I get it, accountants aren’t always the most affectionate bunch; sometimes referred to as boring or dry. Many consider them a necessary evil, number crunchers or even bean counters. Some...

6 months ago, we added a new staff accountant to our team: Milen Gomez. Our newest staff accountant is the best we could ask for with her incredible attention to detail and efficient mindset. She has been an essential part of our continued growth by always putting her best foot forward and delivering our clients’ incredible results. Let’s take a moment to get to know Milen a little better.

Milen Gomez Staff Accountant

Here are some of the highlights from our conversation with Milen:

How did you find Fritz Financial Solutions?

I was checking in on my LinkedIn account and saw that a recruiter reached out to me with a wonderful opportunity to work for Fritz Financial Solutions as a Staff Accountant. I took the initiative to look further into the company and the job description. What I gathered from my own research was that 1) this would be a great step forward for my career, and 2) I would have many opportunities to develop and fine-tune my skills in a fast-paced working environment. So I told the recruiter I was interested, and the rest is history!

Why do you like accounting?

When I was in college, I knew I wanted to challenge myself and be in a field that would encourage me to learn. I asked myself, “What is the best course for me to take that wouldn’t be monotonous and boring throughout my career?” Accounting may on the surface appear like an odd choice, but you use so much of your brain power to come up with creative solutions to unique problems. There’s never a dull moment. I also really enjoy problem-solving and the meticulous process that accounting has. There’s such an incredible feeling of fulfillment and achievement when you solve a really difficult problem.

Plus, accounting has a huge impact on business owners and really reduces the financial burden off their shoulders. I enjoy showing them the big picture and what certain numbers mean for their business; I’m essentially translating spreadsheets into recommended business practices. There is so much satisfaction in a job well done!

What’s your favorite part of working with Fritz Financial Solutions?

Working with Daliah; she’s given me so many opportunities to meet with clients. Client-facing is important to me because English is not my first language, so it’s made me more confident in speaking in it. Plus, I get to see the results and impact of my work with those that it impacts most directly.

I also get to work with so many different accounting systems and technology tools. As mentioned I love learning new things and mastering new technology and systems keeps my career growing! Fritz Financial Solutions prioritize career development, and the fact that they take the time to teach me and help me grow means the world.

How do you make your client’s business your business?

Knowing the industry and knowing the power that these numbers have is very important to me. If I fail or I’m not on top of my game, any mistake I make will affect my clients’ businesses, so I am always very vigilant in what I do every day. My vigilance, my accuracy, my “business,” is what helps my clients’ businesses find success.

Lastly, what do you like to do in your free time?

I love taking care of my two dogs! They are the best, but they’re always so sleepy. I also love to read fantasy novels and binge-watch one of my favorite shows, Law and Order SVU!
